Maltese Breed Mentors

 

 

 

Mentor Requirements For The American Maltese Association

 

  1. Must be a member in good standing of AMA, and have signed the AMA Code of Ethics.

  2. Must have attended at least 5 National Specialties, or 3 Nationals and 2 regional specialties.  Must have attended at least one National Specialty Breed Study Group seminar within the last three years.

  3. Must have extensive experience in owning, breeding or exhibiting the breed. 

  4. Possess a solid background in the Breed history with knowledge of the Breed’s function and various bloodlines.

  5. Have an in depth knowledge of the breed’s health, including any genetic problems as well as the ability of testing for such.

  6. Be committed to impartiality and to the Breed standard.

  7. Be able to discuss pros and cons of a breeding providing suggestions on possible stud dogs. 

  8. Have an innate ability to verbalize and discuss the breed standard in clear, concise, breed specific language. 

  9. Be able to interact with Mentees and to communicate in an understandable, clear,  and insightful manner.

  10. Should be willing and able to share their knowledge and provide guidance  through open exchange of information, ideas, and perspectives.

  11. Be committed to the Mentee’s needs and assist in requested information.

  12. Have the energy and flexibility of schedules necessary to accept mentoring requests.

  13. Be experienced in stud management, including natural and artificial breeding.

  14. Be versed in whelping, rearing, training, and appropriate placement of puppies.

  15. Have an extensive knowledge of useful resources.

  16. Familiarity with rules and regulations of American Kennel Club; in particular, providing advice on registration forms and options, and breeding record keeping.
